3 x Grand Champion Buck/BOB, 1 x Reserve Grand Champion Buck, and now a finished MCH in AGS and CH in ADGA! 2009 ANDDA All-American 2-3-Yr.-Old Buck
Xenya's kids are doing great too! At just 10 days old, Xenya's buckling Fair Skies XK Yu'pik Me *S placed first out of four bucks in 1 ADGA and 1 AGS show under Marie Layman. In other shows that year, he consistently placed second. The following year, however, Yu'pik took three Grand Championships, with his own sire taking Reserve to him! In 2010, Yu'pik took a Reserve Grand Championship under judge Karen Senn and a Grand Championship with Best Buck in Show under judge Lynn Benedict (judge Benedict's first ND Best in Show!). Yu'pik has also been named 2009 ANDDA All-American 1-2-Yr.-Old Buck. Yu'pik's kidding mate, Yantarni, recently placed second in a class of five jr. does but later went on to earn Best Jr. Doe in Show at the ADGA Show at the 2010 Alaska State Fair in Palmer (Pearson).

MCH CH TH Xenya
Xenya is named for the African country, Kenya, so his name is pronounced with the "K" sound at the beginning.
From the first moment we laid eyes upon Xenya, we were in love. Despite the fact that we had already purchased his dam, Sandy Hollow SS Butterscotch 3*D 3*M, we simply had to have Xenya. Superb width from hips through thurls, pins, and hocks, level topline, and good bone all wrapped up in one package. An affectionate buck, he buck stole our hearts the first time we met him and he's sure to do the same for everyone he encounters in both the show ring and the breeding pen.
In his first set of AGS Classification and ADGA Linear Appraisal sessions in summer 2009, Xenya earned high marks across the board but needs improvement in his feet and rear pasterns, with some room for increased rump width.

Here is a shot of Xenya from the FNDGA's August 9, 2009 ADGA Show (Hendrickson).

Xenya comes from very dairy lines, with both his paternal granddam, Jobi Aida 3*D 1*M (AGS 2005 #8 High Milk with 1,104# in 297 days and posting in the AGS top 10 for milk production at least 3 other times 2005), and his sire, Jobi LA Thunder *S linebred on Jobi Misti 2*D 2*M (AGS 2003 #2 High Milk with 1,247# in 305 days, and posting in AGS top ten for milk production at least 9 other times between 2002-2004). Additionally, Xenya's maternal grandsire, Piddlin Acres Sargent Scholtz, was linebred on Woodhaven Farms Moon Dancer *D (Storybook Zoser x Storybook Nefertiti), his maternal granddam, MCH Piddlin Acres Neon Moon *D, was linebred on Dav-Lyn Piddlin Acres Victory, and his dam, Sandy Hollow SS Butterscotch 3*D 3*M, was linebred on Piddlin Acres ShortChange *S (MCH Twin Creeks BH Bay Watch *++S x MCH Piddlin Acres Doe 'C' Doe) and Piddlin Acres Concerto (MCH Piddlin Acres Blue Thunder +S x Tupence Minuet). For more summaries of his ancestors and their accomplishments, click here to view Xenya's 5-generation pedigree.
Their breeder retained Xenya's full brother from the same kidding, Xanadu *S, of whom she said, "This boy is our up and coming youngster. A gold buckskin, Xanadu is so well balanced, his topline, overall length, dish face, and strong lower jaw all announce that he 'has arrived'. Standing uphill on strong feet with plenty of angulation, he is an exciting boy that we are looking forward to using here. ... just awesome." It will be interesting to see how these boys produce side-by-side on different does!
We expect this buck will mature into a spectacular herdsire and we're already seeing huge promise from his kids. Xenya produced a fine set of kids out of WaitingForMe 2*D 2*M, both of which have excelled in the show ring. The doe is also proving herself in the milk pail and she has the largest, most milkable teats in our herd.

Yu'pik Me

Yu'Pik was impressive as a kid, but now that he's growing up he's really coming into his own and you simply can't beat his personality. Always the first one to the gate to greet us, we often joke that his name should have been "You, Pick Me Up!" because he has always enjoyed the attention he's been paid since he was a newborn. All our animals, bucks included, get plenty of affection here, but this boy was a lap goat early in life. He's had to relinquish this luxury now that he's too big to pick up, but he remains respectful and sweet as pie. Very easy to handle, which is a big plus for a buck.
With a play on words using the word for the Alaska's "authentic people", the Yu'pik, this boy is the real deal. Excellent dairy character in length, open ribbing, and long, flat bone pattern, supreme rear-leg angulation, level topline, extremely correct pasterns and feet, and carrying great milking genetics. We are very excited about this up-and-comer and we can't wait to see the udders on his first kids this fall!
In his first ADGA Linear Appraisal sessions in summer 2009, Yu'Pik earned high marks for general appearance, dairy character, body capacity, strength, dairyness, rump angle, rear legs (side view), head, shoulder assembly, legs, and back. As noted in his recent LA, Yu'Pik needs improvement in his feet and rump width. In his second session in 2011, he was markedly improved in Stature, Strength, Dairyness, Rump Width, Feet, and overall in Dairy Character and Body Capacity. We did not have a chance to groom him properly for this session, but we do not believe that significantly affected his scores, as evidenced by the similarity between the two sessions' final outcomes.
